COMPARISON OF EFFECTIVENESS IN REMOVAL OF PATHOGENS FROM DOMESTIC WASTEWATER WITH BIOLOGICAL TREATMENTS AND PHYSICAL TREATMENTS BY UV RADIATION

Keywords: facultative bacteria, ultraviolet radiation, sewage water, treatment of sewage water

Abstract

This paper show to the evaluating of the effectiveness of the removal of pathogens in domestic wastewater with biological treatments using facultative bacteria (consortium of organisms) and physical treatments using ultraviolet radiation, making a comparison between both treatments, through an experimental scope. To demonstrate what was signed, samples were taken from the Huatanay River, the collector river of the residual effluents of the city of Cusco, (2000 ml for each reactor), equipment for measuring physicochemical parameters of pH Temperature, Electroconductivity, Dissolved oxygen (Multiparameter), turbidity (Turbidimeter), colorimetric reagents for COD, facultative bacteria and consortium of activated organisms (Bacillus subtillis, Pseudomonas fluorecens, Saccharomyces cereviceae) for wastewater treatment (biomass), 2 7watt UV radiation electrodes and Amscope 2000x microscope. Within the methodology, reference is made to the selection of biological parameters (CFU-fecal coliforms), application of biological and physical experimental models, evaluation and monitoring of physicochemical parameters every 3 days and biological parameters after 15 days to verify the removal of pathogens with both treatments. Results. The advanced oxidation process allows us to show that the physicochemical parameters remained slightly stable in the consecutive measurements carried out on the effluents under treatment, where a difference is observed in the reduction of turbidity, it is in the UV reactor unlike the bioreactor, it is evident the percentage of removal of fecal coliforms in both treatments reaching 89.04% with physical treatment in the UV reactor and 85.54% in the bioreactor, considering both efficient options in the removal of pathogens and the generation of biosolids is minimal in the bioreactor and almost null in the UV reactor.
